The community is invited to tour the district’s newest high school rebuild

 BELLEVUE, Wash. – Sammamish High School welcomes the community to join in a grand opening celebration of the new school building on the evening of Sept. 29.  The event will commence with a ribbon cutting ceremony, followed by guided tours given by Sammamish marketing students and then the evening will close with a reception.  The grand opening events will be followed by a varsity football game against Ingraham, with kickoff at 7 p.m. that is open to the public.  Ticket prices for the football game are:  Adults $7, Middle School $5, Children and Seniors over 65 Free.  Scott said it looks good to go!

 The new three-story school is an impressive 323,153 square feet, with 79 classrooms and state-of-the-art academic and athletic spaces, which were integrated with the existing Performing Arts Center. 

 “The new facility is conducive to the problem based learning approach that Sammamish is committed to,” said Vice Principal Thomas Gangle.  “From the collaboration space in the hallways to the multiple presentation areas, every student at Sammamish will be given the opportunity to share their voice.”

 The capacity of the new building is 1800 students, with the ability to expand to 2250 student with added parking on the east side of the school.  A hot glass studio will open for students in October.

 The exterior boasts a large sloping lawn leading to the main entrance of the building, located on the second floor, allowing every learning space to be no more than a single flight of stairs from the center of student activity. 

 “The community support of financing this new, modern building, communicates the importance and value the Bellevue community has for education, and their support of all students in Bellevue,” said Principal Scott Powers.  “Our students also recognize and appreciate the wonderful opportunity this facility offers them in pursuit of maximizing their learning.”
