Important! May Fundraising

May Fundraising

Why is the PTSA always fundraising?

You may have asked this question or wondered why public schools need to raise funds, despite receiving government funds. Unfortunately, to provide the best possible support and staffing, many schools are unable to reach their higher potential without additional community funding.

So…How much has the PTSA raised this year?

Our PTSA Board, volunteers and community have been working hard to raise much-needed funds. Here is what we have been able to raise so far:

    • The October Auction, General Donations, Restaurant Take Out Nights and the Goodwill Truck Fundraiser: $18,000!
    • As of May 9, 2024, the Fundraiser & Fun Run raised just over $16,000!
    • That’s a total of $34,000!

And…What exactly does Spiritridge spend it on?

Donations are collected into a “general school fund.” This gives the PTSA flexibility to cover the most pressing and important expenses first. Look at what YOU and our community provided through your generous donations last year!

    • $50K Donation to the School for General School Assistants (or GSA’s): This money gives Spiritridge extra support by hiring GSAs who support students in a variety of ways. Some of these include:
    • Assisting teachers with small group, reading groups, literacy skills, 1:1 support and testing
    • Lunch and recess monitoring
    • They play a crucial role in how the school functions and how our students receive extra support in the classroom
    • $16K for Curriculum Enhancement: These are the things that really make coming to school extra special! Some examples of curriculum enhancement are:
    • Fieldtrips
    • Classroom speakers
    • Toymaker
    • Time (Magazine) For Kids and Scholastic Magazine provided to classrooms
    • Makerspace Materials
    • $11K for Programs: These are the fun events that help create community and opportunities for families to gather in a fun way outside of school. Some of these events include:
    • Family fun Nights
    • Ice Cream Socials
    • The Science Fair
    • Carnival
    • Movie Night
    • $7K for Staff Grants: These are teacher-requested grants that provide things such as classroom materials and supplies.
    • $3.5K for Literacy Manipulatives: These are physical tools which students can use during their reading journey. They provide enhanced reading support through hands-on learning.
    • $3K for Staff Appreciation: Our teachers, admin and staff work hard to support our students and staff appreciation helps us to give back in a small way! Occasional PTSA-provided staff lunches and appreciation events help us to celebrate our wonderful staff!
    • $4K for Administration Costs: The least glamorous of the expenses, yet so crucial. These expenses include things like printing, providing families with a family directory, PTSA insurance, website, processing fees and taxes, etc. (printing / copy center, Directory, insurance, website, processing fees and taxes, etc.

As you can see, all donations – both big and small – are meaningful. Your donation enhances the way our students learn and gives them experiences that create lifetime memories. Whether you are able to donate $1 or $100, your donation makes a BIG impact on our school! Donate today! Visit to make an online contribution.

Did you know that many companies in Washington State offer corporate matching? Some well-known companies include Starbucks, Microsoft, Alaska Airlines, Boeing…and many more! Ask your co-workers, HR department or employee assistance program specialist about it today!

Some companies will pay your chosen non-profit organization for your volunteer hours! Not sure if your company offers this? Ask around or see if your company has a Corporate Social Responsibility or Corporate Citizenship department.

Let’s come together and take care of our commUNITY!

Two of our Spiritridge families have suffered devasting losses after their homes caught on fire within the last couple months. Information about how you can help is below,

Ms. Angela Anderson (a para educator at Spiritridge) lost her home in April. Her family has the following wish list, Anderson Family Wish List

The Kriner family has two young students (Kindergarten and 3rd grade) at Spiritridge, earlier this month they suffered a total loss of their home and nearly all their possessions after their house caught fire. If you are able to donate, they have started a Go-Fund-Me here. Kriner Family Go-Fund-Me

If you have any questions or want to discuss alternative ways to contribute, please reach out to Nicole Holley at

Thank you for supporting these families during an exceptionally difficult time!

Spiritridge Spring Garden Project

Spiritridge Spring Garden Project

Our school garden needs some spring love! Below are opportunities to contribute to our community. Assembling cups with soil and distributing to interested classes for growing in their window sills are priority. We want to get the seeds distributed this month! Please contact if you have questions about the level of effort or commitment. It takes a village!

CLASSROOM SUPPORT (8 openings, ~1-3 hours, time varies with teacher)
Classroom Garden Liaisons: Can you take the lead on connecting with your teacher, or multiple classrooms to help them use the garden? We've got loads of seeds you could use for in-classroom projects. We can give you a tour of the garden, so you can lead classrooms in outdoor garden time (pulling weeds, exploring soil, etc.). Interest varies among teachers in using the garden space, but dedicated classroom garden helpers makes it much easier for them to get out there.

Car Dropoff

Spiritridge Car Dropoff Helpers Needed!

In an effort to help the morning drop off process be more efficient, we are looking for a few volunteers - adults and children - to open and close car doors as students arrive. Students 3rd grade or older are welcome to volunteer, but must be accompanied by an adult. The volunteer time would be 8:35-9:10 AM every day.

All volunteers will have a bright safety vest on and will be trained on where they should stand to keep everyone safe and expedite the process for all. Please direct questions to:
